In Tamil Nadu’s Rameswaram island, women seaweed farmers are struggling as climate change intensifies cyclones and warming of the Indian ocean. Even as India aims to scale seaweed production to one million tonnes by 2025, women farmers see their workdays, harvesting space, and incomes steadily decline. Many are now seeking alternate livelihoods. The story examines how climate change and industry expansion impact livelihoods of seaweed workers in Gulf of Mannar.
Microsoft is building a data center in a tiny Indian village. Locals allege it’s dumping industrial waste
I investigated Microsoft’s data center in Mekaguda, near Hyderabad, where locals alleged land encroachment and waste dumping that polluted resources. My reporting and photography highlighted the environmental and social risks and costs of Big Tech’s expansion in rural India. This work is now being used as one of the first case studies on data centers in South Asia context. The report debates on rise of AI infrastructure, environment, and community rights.
India's Gen Z voters seek jobs, harmony in world's biggest election
My photograph was chosen as the banner image for Reuters’ report on India's 2024 General elections. It features 16 profiles of first-time voters documented by eight photographers across India. Shot in Hyderabad, my photographs feature a 21-years-old auto-rickshaw driver Katravath Santosh, and a Central university student Nikitha Donthula.
